Wilson's Fourteen Points reflected his strong-and perhaps unrealistic-faith in the ability of governments to resolve their problems fairly. The plan interfered with the competing interests of the individual nations in determining how to divide up territory. Also, some of Wilson's points were vague. They did not propose concrete solutions to difficult questions, such as how to achieve self-determination in regions where many different ethnic groups lived closely together.
