Neutrality disappeared after the Pearl Harbor attack.
Once Germany decided to declare war on the USA in support of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, it was difficult to avoid war with Germany and other countries making up the Axis.

Up until that point, the majority of people in the USA preferred to remain Neutral.

they faced many problems but the biggest were slaves were set freee and segragation had been abolished.
