D-Day, the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II, officially began on June 6, 1944. The operation lasted for several weeks as Allied forces fought to secure the beaches and push inland. While there is no specific "finish time" for D-Day, the initial amphibious landings and establishment of beachheads were completed within the first 24 hours.
