The fewest major battles fought in a year were recorded in 1814 and 1815, during the latter part of the Napoleonic Wars. In 1814, the focus shifted to peace negotiations following Napoleon's abdication, while in 1815, the significant Battle of Waterloo marked the end of the conflicts. These years were characterized by a transition from warfare to diplomatic resolution.
During World War II's first two years, from 1939 up to 1941, numerous major battles occurred. In 1939, Germany invaded Poland, conquering it in a little more than a month. Early in 1940, successful campaigns were waged by Germany in Denmark, Norway, and France. Later that year, the famous Battle of Britain took place. Throughout, battles were fought on the Atlantic Ocean by naval forces as well as in the Mediterranean Basin, which also included battles in North Africa and in Greece by Italian armies.
During the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), several key battles were fought in the West Indies, primarily between British and French forces. Notable engagements included the Battle of Guadeloupe in 1759, where British forces captured the island from the French, and the Battle of Martinique, which saw British forces attempt to seize the island in 1762. These battles were part of a broader struggle for colonial dominance, significantly impacting control of territories in the Caribbean. Ultimately, the war shifted the balance of power in favor of the British in the region.

The main Union Army opposed to him had six commanders during that time. The other main theater of war was the "west", which during the Civil War meant west of the Appalachians but east of the Mississippi River, and on neither side did any general come close to that amount of time in command.
