It depended on whether the women were bred in the city or in farm areas. Most city women had at least a high school education and some had liberal arts college educations or better. In the farm areas some graduated from high school but most did not. Some, like the men who joined up, could barely read and do math. They had the education of being farmers and farmers' wives. The city women often had trade school educations too, like secretarial courses.
Many women had nursing educations and went to the war front. Some had business degrees and education degrees. There were even women educated to be doctors (such as my mother). Education levels rose after World War 2 as the GI Bill improved things for the women and their men.
