Possibly, and this may be stretching things, the American War of Independence or Revolution was not formally concluded until l783 and the Treaty of Paris. This may very well have gone into effect on Christmas Day. the Historical King Charlemagne was crowned on Christmas Day, 800, a bright spot in the Dark Ages! As he is considered to be French- by the French, there is some precedent for having a treaty on Christmas Eve other than mere ( Goodwill towards men!).
