A couple of events come to mind, part of the winning side in WW1 and WW2
America's president during WWI, President Woodrow Wilson, made a list called the "Fourteen Points", which were his solutions to peace. He supported the idea of self-rule, the return of land, and the creation of the League of Nations. The US was part of the Big Four who participated in the Treaty of Versailles, in which the Big Four decided who got which land, and what was going to happen to Germany, seeing that they were the cause of WWI (aka the Great War). Wilson's Fourteen Points were not included in the Treaty of Versailles, but the Big Four agreed on the creation of the League of Nations, which Wilson thought was the most important. Ironically, America did not join the League of Nations.
The Battle of Chickamauga was part of the Confederate campaign aiming to the reconquest of the vital strategic points of Chattanooga and Knoxville.
he was the 1st president !
The League of Nations was the only point that made it into the treaty.

The purpose of Wilson's Fourteen Points was to show other nations what the USA believed should be part of post-WWI. He also wanted to show other nations that although the USA wasn't a part of most of the war, it would be a major force in the treaty.
Yes, Wilson's Fourteen Points included a principle advocating for open seas. Specifically, the fourth point emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation on the seas in both peace and war, except as the seas may be closed in whole or in part by international action for the enforcement of international covenants. This was part of Wilson's broader vision for a more just and stable world order following World War I.
