Me 262

The best plane all round was a mix between the spitfire and the p-51 mustang.

the spitfire had the fastest turning and the P-51 had more fire-power,P-51

mustang also had a bigger fuel tank. so the P-51 is the best.

Another Answer

There was no 'best' plane of world war two. For example, to say that the 'Spitfire' was the best would be to ignore the fact that it would have been an awful heavy bomber. In the same way, to say that the 'Lancaster' was the best would be to ignore the fact that it would have been an appalling fighter!

It would also be difficult to say which was, for example, the 'best fighter' plane, as each of the most famous fighters, e.g. Spitfire, Me 109, Fw 190, Mustang, and Zero, each had some characteristic that made it 'better' in some respect than the others. And each of them was highly successful and subject to continuous development.

To name the Me 262 as 'the best' fighter would be to ignore the fact that it had very little effect on the outcome of the war and to ignore the fact that it had unreliable engines. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that it was one of the most innovative aircraft of the war.

One area, perhaps, where it would be possible to identify the 'most successful', rather than 'the best' (although it probably was the best), would be photoreconnaissance aircraft as, undoubtedly, the de Havilland 'Mosquito', was without question the most successful. WebRep
