The highest military pay raise in recent history occurred in 2002 when the United States Congress approved a 4.1% increase in basic pay for service members. This raise was part of a broader effort to improve military compensation and address recruitment and retention challenges. The increase was notable as it exceeded the standard annual adjustments typically seen.
In 1972, military personnel received a pay raise of 10 percent. This increase was part of efforts to address rising inflation and improve the compensation of service members. It marked one of the larger adjustments in military pay during that period, reflecting the government's recognition of the need to enhance the financial well-being of armed forces members.
Military pay (Basic Pay) is determined by rank and longevity of service, not by actual job. The highest paying military "jobs" are the highest ranking military officers; admirals for the Navy and Coast Guard and generals for the rest. Some "jobs" within the military may have special pays associated with them due to the technical requirements or dangers associated with a particular job. These special pays are, however, limited in the amount they pay. Special pays range from as little as $75 per month to a high of no more than $400 per month (may be old data as I have been retired from the military for about 8-9 years).
Yes, the military can pay for your school. You will have to join the military and you will go to a military college but you will get a degree!
The government sets the pay for the military, the government pays the military and tax payers fund the government so that they can pay for the military. Keep in mind military members pay taxes as well so they themselves are paying a portion of their own pay checks.
An execution.
President Ronald Reagan gave the military its largest pay raises. Ranging from 10-17% his raises were instrumental in bringing military salaries up to the level of their civilian age and education equivalents.

As of right now its $1294.50. Should increase with 2010's pay raise though. You can look at the 2009 Military pay chart for more info. S/F Sgt Reece
From what i researched, there is nothing saying that he raised taxes. But he did cancel pay raises for the military! Sorry....Carter didn't cancel pay raises for the military. As a matter of fact, the military received more double digit pay raises under Carter than any administration before or after. Even the 1981 pay increase for which Reagan takes credit was actually submitted and approved by Carter.
