The most successful fighters used by the Luftwaffe were the Messerschmitt (Me)-109 and the Focke-Wulf (Fw)-109. Naturally, there were many others, but these two could have changed the tide of the war had the Luftwaffe not run low on ammo and fuel nearing the end of their struggle. The current highest-scoring ace in history was Erich Hartmann with 352 kills in the Me-109G6 as his standard bird running on a Daimler-Benz (today Mercedes-Benz) engine. (Painted with a black nose, giving him the nickname "The Black Devil" though he was renowned for his personal codes of honor in the air)
The Germans had several fighter aircraft, the four most famous and most used, in the order that they were introduced to the Luftwaffe: Messerschmitt Me109 (or Bf109) single engine fighter Messerschmitt Me110 twin engine fighter Focke-Wulf Fw190 single engine fighter Messerschmitt Me262 twin jet engine fighter You can Google these, there is alot of detailed information out there.

Answer First successful jet aircraftfor military use probably the Sabre jet and for commercial flight the comet AnswerNo, certainly not. The first military jet fighter (turbines only) in serial production was the German Messerschmitt ME 262,already in development or developed at the very starting point of world war 2, meaning 1939!!! But the Germans were sceptical and their propeller fighter ME 109 was already the best performing fighter at this time, so ME 262 didn't enter the fights until a short time before war was over. The first official flight of any jet plane - again in Germany (Rostock), again during the preparations for ww2, was made with a Heinkel He 178, 27th of August, 1939. The first rocket propulsed fighter was the Messerschmitt Me 163 - establishing an inofficial world record of 1104 kilometres per hour. All those German planes - I certainly don't think war is a good thing, I'm just admiring the technological development - are great. All first jet fighter of russia, old MiGs and the American ones are quite exact copies of the German models. Logical... as the allies took them when they invaded Germany.
Germany with the Me262 .
If it's signed by a WW2 US fighter ACE such as Pappy Boyington (US Marine Corps), or Richard Bong (Top US Ace of WW2-US Army Air Force), or any other US WWII "Ace", the item WILL have some value to it. How much depends on condition, authenticity, and how desperate the buyer is to have it.
During WW2 around 18.2 million soldiers served in the German military. Im not sure about the US army.
