Who was the first American officer and first African American to lead troops in World War 1? He and his unit were the 369th Infantry and they weren't white. Due to bigotry and racist feelings amongst many Americans of the day segregation was how things were done. Their leader was one of the first Afro-Americans to become an offcier of the US Army. Like the guy who is now the President of the US of A, black American's can achieve anything. Go look up Jim Europe and see how the man came to be great. http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/jreurope.htm
Paratroopers. No. Paratroopers are the name for airborne soldiers of any country who descend by parachute. American airborne regiments probably have their own lesser-known nicknames, and perhaps they can be obtained by researching each regiment individually. I can recall only one offhand. The 555th in World War 2 was nicknamed "the Poor Old 555th" because they were held out of combat throughout the war, and the only action they saw was extinguishing forest fires caused by Japanese balloon bombs. The 555th was as good as any other American airborne regiment, but they were a black unit, and racism was a factor. I also remember that the 503rd was the regiment which recaptured the island of Corregidor on February 16, 1945. Corregidor was called the ROCK and as a result the regiment is still called the ROCK Regiment. They are currently assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vicenza, Italy. The nickname for the 173rd is the "Sky Soldiers". This nickname was given to them by the Chinese when the 173rd was stationed in Japan and conducted all manner of training jumps into the orient. The Chinese called them "Tien Bien" meaning, "Sky Soldiers".

That would depend on whose 369th Regiment it was and even a time line. For example: Infanterie Regiment 369 (Croatia) saw service in WW2 as a part of the 100th Jaeger Division of the German Army at Stalingrad. The 369th Infantry Regiment (United States) was the famous Harlem Hellfighters or Black Rattlers which gained fame and glory as the first African American Regiment in WW1 with the French Army at the Second Battle of the Marne and was the first allied unit to reach the Rhine River.
The 369th infantry regiment of African-Americans.
"Buffalo Soldiers" is a nickname originally bestowed upon the members of the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army by the Native American tribes they were fighting, the term eventually encompassed these units: * U.S. 9th Cavalry Regiment * U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment * 24th Infantry Regiment * 25th Infantry Regiment * 27th Cavalry Regiment * 28th Cavalry Regimen

"Rough Riders" was the nickname of the 1st United States Volunteer Cavalry Regiment.
I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about...but it could be the nickname of a Mexican-American War regiment from Indiana- http://www.ingenweb.org/mexican/4THIMW.HTM
I'm pretty sure he got the nickname "Black Jack" from an African American regiment he commanded and led in the American-Philippine War. It was either that, or a regiment he led into Mexico to capture Pancho Villa. It had to do with some African American squad he led.
First American Regiment was created in 1784.
