Operation Iraqi Freedom was launched in March 2003 with the primary purpose of toppling Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq. The U.S. government justified the invasion by claiming that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and posed a significant threat to global security. Additionally, the operation aimed to promote democracy and stabilize the region, although the anticipated WMDs were never found, leading to widespread debate about the legitimacy and consequences of the invasion.

Additionally, the operation aimed to eliminate the Iraqi regime, promote democracy in the region, and address concerns about Iraq's ties to terrorism. The invasion was controversial, as no WMDs were ultimately found, leading to significant debate about the justification for the war.
One of the official goals of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 was to disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), which the U.S. and its allies believed were being developed and could pose a threat to regional and global security.
