The role MN played in World War 2 was providing a place for a training center for inductees. It was Fort Snelling that the training took place.
Minnesota played a significant role in World War II. The state contributed to the war effort by providing soldiers, food, and supplies. It also became a major industrial center, manufacturing war-related goods and producing vehicles, ammunition, and other military equipment. Additionally, Minnesota was home to several military training facilities, which prepared soldiers for combat.

Yes, in Sioux Falls and Yankton. Edit: The Sioux Falls and Yankton camps were branch POW camps of the main POW camp in Algona Iowa. The POW camp in Algona had a total of 34 branch camps in IA, MN, SD and ND. There was also main POW camp in Igloo SD that administered six branch POW camps in western SD, including POW camps at Ft Meade (near Sturgis) and Belle Fourche. POW's did much of the stone work on the grounds of the Ft. Meade VA hospital and they were used for farm labor in the wheat and beet fields in the area.
The best I can remember (from school, not from being there...) , they were: DE, PA, NJ, GA, CT, MA, MD, SC, NH, VA, NY, NC, RI, VT, KY, TN, OH, LA, IN, MS, IL, AL, ME, MO, AR, MI, FL, TX, IA, WI, CA, MN, OR, KS, & WV. You might be surprised how many people think the Southern States were "taken off" the flag during the Civil War, but none were. That's why the well-known phrase is that the Union was "preserved." Also, flag bearing the 35th star, for West Virginia, became official on July 4, 1863; the day after the 3-day Battle of Gettysburg. Probably more than you wanted to know. LOL
