As totally evil and horrific as the Holocaust, the barbaric fighting on the eastern front and German/Japanese occupation were, many historians would still say that the worst part of WWII were the things that the free world was forced to do to win it. Yes. The worst part of any war is the effect it has on the innocent. To a limited extent soldiers, the military, know what thay are signing on for, to fight, and at least they have some measure of self defence, even if it is only a rifle or whatever, but the great mass of casualties in the modern era are not military, they are civillians. Even in WW1 the vast majority of death was to people in uniform, that has all gone to hell in a handcart now.

I know more Russians died in ww2 then any one else so it must of been a battle between them and Germany
