World War 2 was not long after the discovery of penicillin. Penicillin was used widely for everything that people had. If somebody was sick the answer was to go to the doctor to get penicillin. Because of the wide use of penicillin in the forties and fifties there are many penicillin resistent bacteria. Medical sceince is racing to find the next medicine to kill bacteria, but the problem of overusing antibiotics is constantly working against the cause. There is methicillin resistant stapholococcus areus or MRSA and VRE. The problem is that there is a fear in the medical field that drug resistance will grow and be a constant problem. These infections are also highly contagious so it is best to practise good higiene to prevent the contracting of these infections that are extremely difficult to subdue.
