-The airplane, mostly used for reconnaissance by taking pictures of enemy positions and what not, but had the capabilities to drop small bombs and carry a rear machine gunner. Most famous event involving airplanes would probably be the German zeppelin raids of London

-Poison Gas. Like the machine gun, just lead to massive troop casualties, because they are all forced to stay in their trenches due to machine gun fire and easily become prey to mustard gas attacks. The gas literally made people throw their lungs up and as a result troops were issued gas masks that they kept with themselves at all times
