Abraham Lincoln didn't want the civil war but he was ready to fight for the land that the south "stole" (meaning they took federal land from the union when they seceded). he was fine with the south having slavery, everyone thinks that the civil war started because Abraham Lincoln didn't like slavery, but that is just what Stephen a. Douglas said and made him look like.

Abraham Lincoln had a lots of thinkings.

when he was little, he hated slaves being sold. (same with his dad).

so he wanted to free slaves when he grew up. second thinking was probablynot to start a war but unfortunately, the war started, famous for, "civil war". third he maybe thought of... i don't know but maybe he thought of talking to a lot of people before the election.
