A common innovation after WWII was housing developments (tract housing); following the war, thousands and thousands of families were formed and needed inexpensive housing. The housing developments lead to strip malls, which lead to shopping centers.

Indirectly. World War 1 saw the decline of imperialism, leading to World War 2, in turn leading to the Cold War, leading to the present time. Also, World War 1 was a great technological war, and that same technology, though much updated, is still with us.
