Why was the Battle of Midway such a significant battle for US?

Some people refer to it as a "turning point in the War", but that's a load of bull. The Japanese were still continuing to advance in the South Pacific, and it would be 4 more months before the Allies cleared them out.It was only regarded as an important battle for 2 reasons:1) It was the first major victory by the Allies against Japan.2) Every single enemy aircraft - all 248 of them - was destroyed, causing heavy Japanese losses.Answer:The Battle of Midway was the turning point in the Pacific area of the war. The reason for this is that the Japanese were taken by surprise, lost 4 cruisers in the battle, and were weakened.

Battle of Midway what objective was each side trying to accomplish?

Midway islands were crucial for Japan to control so they could advance further in South East Asia and Australia. The opposite was true for the Americans, Australians and other allies. They had to stop the Japanese in the Midway Islands to begin their advance toward Japan. The victory of the battle also had morale boosting effects for the Allied Nations. It was the beginning of the end for Japan. I came back to add: The Japanese were bent on destroying all the aircraft carriers in that battle too. They failed.

What was the Henderson Field in World War 2 in the Pacific?

Henderson Field was the airfield on Guadalcanal used by United States Marine, Navy and Army forces in the war in the South Pacific. I was named for Marine Major Lofton Henderson, commanding officer of VMSB-241 who was killed in action at the Battle of Midway.
