It is not a myth it is just that this is only done on a military base as to defend our rights.
legend is a match, an m-16 round, and a razor blade.
In wartime the flag is worn backwards to show advancement.. take the flag and put it on a flag-pole and run at the enemy.. it flies backwards.. Hope this helped Flying the flag upsidedown is a sign of duress. The idea being that your enemies would not know which side was up but your friends would and would come to your aid.
Because When the red cross first started the gowns that women would wear had that. And the needed a flag so soldiers would know that they knew they were there to help. So they took a gown and hung it on a pole.
They had a treaty with the government that was broken when the attack happened and by waving the flag they were trying to tell the troops that this was the case. Many stood under the flag pole and were killed. Men, women , and children were killed in the vicious attack. One mother hid her children in a ditch to protect them and they were killed. Read Black Elk Speaks.
The picture that was printed in the papers in 1945 was the second flag raising of the day. If you get a copy of Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley is the author. There is a picture in the middle that shows one pole going up as a second is coming down. The picture itself shows 6 men ~ Ira Hayes is at the back having just let go of the pole, Franklin Sousley is in front of him and if you look closely there is another soldier beside Frank - that is Mike Strank their Sergeant. In front of them you can see Jack Bradley (medic and father of the author), beside him barely visible is Rene Gagnon and at the base of the pole is Harlon Block.
Did you mean "holds the flag" question is confusing
The ball on top of the flag pole is call the truck
a flag pole,a truck,
A truck
I was informed that the top of a flag pole was called a truck. Now I learn that it is not a truck but a finial. The turck is the mechanism that connects the finial to the flag pole. IS this correct and where do these words come from.
The truck is the name for the round ball on top of the flagpole. It serves to keep the flag from getting caught if wind flips it over the pole. There are a number of legends about what is inside the truck- a match to burn the flag, a razor blade to cut up the flag, a pistol cartridge for the last soldier, etc. Sorry- the ball is hollow. Nothing in there.

With a flag pole
On top of the base cg's flag pole, it's slept truk tho
There is only one Truck on each Army installation, it is usually located in front of the Headquarters of that base on top of the only flag pole. The "Truck" is the golden ball that tips a flag pole, its significances goes back to the old Army, inside the Truck you would find 1 matchstick, 1 razor blade an 1 .45 caliber round, if you were to knock the flag pole down at True North where the truck lands you would be able to dig up the ground and find a .45 caliber pistol. If the installation was to over run and you were the sole surviving American you would take the razor blade and cut the American Flag into pieces, then take the Matchstick and burn the flag and finally load the .45 caliber round into the gun and shot yourself. We as American soldiers would not settle to surrender the American Flag to our enemies.
it is a razor blade, a SINGLE match, and a bullet. the razor to cut up the flag, the match to burn it to prevent it's capture, and a bullet the commit suicide.
The average height of a flag pole is around 58.48089416'
