That's a pretty tough question as the hippies more or less died out of media as a phenominon and made way just as it has with the Yippies and X-Gen and I-Gen's.
As a mass group that interegrated into society due to need to live and survive, the hair was cut but ideals lived on and made way for other groups which are somewhat created and perpetuated by media coverage - ie: when one person does it - everyone must be doing it... and then they do syndrome.

The Beatniks of the 1950's preceded the Hippies of the 1960's.
a pacifist is someone who believes in peace, and who will do anything to attain it. a hippie go farther than that. they are pacifists, but they are also part of a whole cultural movement about liberation and psychedelics, amonst other things.
