Russia The German offensive into Russia stalled, and the Russians counter-attacked. The Battle of Stalingrad was like the first time that the Germans had been defeated in battle in the war. At its greatest extent the Eastern Front was from Leningrad in the North to very near to Grozny in Caucasian Russia. Leningrad was under siege for nearly 3 years & Moscow was threatned at one time, Stalingrad was reached by the Germans, but never fully taken by them, a terrible fight was ended by the surrender of von Paulus' 6th Army, few indeed of them saw Germany again. There were few meaningful German successes after Kursk in July of 1943, but Berlin was nearly 2 years away......

The Eastern Front means, generally, "the zone of combat on the east side". It will naturally fluctuate as territory is gained and lost, and isn't a specific, constant place.
