The Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by General Braxton Bragg.
Textbooks say that "Chickamauga" is an Indian name for "river of blood". But I don't speak Indian.
Braxton Bragg. He was innefective and was hated by his men. The only battle he won was due to James Longstreet's presence.
The Battle of Chickamauga was part of the Confederate campaign aiming to the reconquest of the vital strategic points of Chattanooga and Knoxville.
Longstreet and Bragg pushed Rosecrans back to Chatanooga.
Chickamauga battlefield is located at Fort Oglethorpe, GA. This is just across the state line from the city of Chattanooga, TN. It is near the Chickamauga River.

Confederate General Archibald Gracie Jr graduated from West Point in 1854. He was ranked 14th in his graduating class of cadets that numbered 46. Gracie saw a series of battle actions including the Battle of Yorktownand the Battle of Berryville. In the Western Theater he fought in the Tullahoma campaign and at the Battle of Chickamuaga. The Rock of Chickamauga was the nickname of General George Henry Thomas. General Thomas was a Virginian who chose to remain with the Union during the Civil War and served most of the war in the West. He is considered by most American Civil War historians to one of the top three Federal Generals of the conflict (along with Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman). He acquired the title "Rock of Chickamuaga" for his famous stand at the battle of Chickamauga where his brave defense against the rampant Confederates while the Army of the Cumberland broke and ran made him a national hero. He would also quired the nickname "Sledge of Nashville" when he broke the back of the Army of Tennessee at the battle of Nashville.
