The official declaration date of WWI is July 28, 1914 Arguably it could be when Gavrilo Princip shot Franz Ferdinand. Or when Austro-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Or when Britain and France got involved. Or when the first battle happened. No-one can really put a set date to it. It depends what you deem the "beginning" of a war.
