The Battle of Pea Ridge in the American Civil War was the last time Confederate troops posed a serious threat to Union control of Missouri.
The number of slaves in these states was insignificant and posed no threat to the Union.
The German U-boats posed a significant problem for the Allies during World War II by targeting merchant shipping, which was crucial for transporting supplies, troops, and equipment. Their stealth and ability to operate submerged allowed them to attack convoy ships effectively, leading to substantial losses in cargo and personnel. This disruption threatened the Allies' logistical capabilities and delayed reinforcements, making it a central concern in the maritime strategy of the war. The Allies ultimately countered this threat through improved convoy tactics, anti-submarine warfare technology, and intelligence efforts.
Germany posed no direct threat to America early on in World War I, until America came to the aid (with men and equipment) of Britain and the Allies fighting against Germany on European soil. Both in the first and second world wars with Germany, the industrial might, and the manpower the Americans could bring to bear, directly helped bring about the defeat of Germany in the West and saved Britain and Allies from defeat - with Russia fighting towards Berlin as (at that time) an Ally.
The missiles posed a significant threat to the U.S. primarily due to their potential to deliver nuclear warheads, dramatically increasing the risk of large-scale destruction. Their deployment by adversarial nations could undermine U.S. military deterrence and potentially allow for a surprise attack. Additionally, the range and accuracy of these missiles could target key U.S. infrastructure and allies, further escalating geopolitical tensions. This capability heightened fears of a nuclear confrontation during critical periods, such as the Cold War.

It is hard to answer that question "in general." It depends upon the situation. I would consider the Nazis pretty extreme and I think most reasonable people would consider the threat they posed was very serious.

I'd like to reduce the toxicity of this concoction.
Torture and lying about torture. Although starting a war against a nation that posed no threat to us runs a close second.
