In the early 1900s, control over Russia was primarily contested between the ruling monarchy, led by Tsar Nicholas II, and various revolutionary groups, including the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. The discontent among the working class and peasantry, exacerbated by economic hardship and military failures in World War I, fueled the rise of these revolutionary factions. The struggle culminated in the Russian Revolution of 1917, which ultimately led to the Bolsheviks seizing power and establishing a communist government.
Poland invaded Russia in 16th century. the Poles seized Moscow/Kremlin for two years 1610-1612. Polish prince - Wladyslaw became a russian tsar and his face was put on russian money. The two most famous, or if you prefer, infamous are Napoleon (1812) & Hitler(!941). Ooops! what a mistake. Also Ghengis Khan, coming from the other direction.(1200 or so) Charles XII of Sweden also invaded, fairly famously. His army met the same fate as Napoleon's and Hitler's.

Vladimir I. Lenin was responsible for the Bolshevik movement in the early 1900s. He was the leader of a minority dissident faction of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party, (RSDLP), a Marxist political party. At its party congress in 1903 in Brussels, he seized an opportunity to gain a temporary majority and named his minority faction Bolsheviks, which means majorityites in Russian. From then on the Bolsheviks were a separate faction with separate ideologies from the rest of the RSDLP. Soon it became an entirely separate political party in and of itself. For his radical views on overthrowing the Tsarist regime, Lenin became a wanted man and fled to Switzerland to avoid arrest. He was in Switzerland at the time of the February 1917 Russian Revolution and had no idea it had even taken place until it was over.
