Dara Shukoh was the eldest and favorite son of Emperor Shah Jahan. He wrote many books in Persian, in which "The Mingling of the Two Oceans" is famous. He believed in the unity of all religions. Dara was declared the heir apparent with the title of Shah Buland Ikbal, however, he was murdered by his younger brother Aurangzeb in 1659.
