Galbatorix is the main antagonist in the Inheritance Cycle. He betrayed the Dragon Riders after the council wouldn't grant him a new dragon after his original one died. Under his command, are the Ra'zac (which are inhuman creatures that eat human flesh. They have withering shin and a powerful beak) and the many fallen riders called the Foresworn. (There were thirteen Foresworn, all killed.) Some shades also serve under him like Durza. (Shades can only be killed by being struck through the heart.) Eragon's former friend and half brother, Murtagh, is forced to serve Galbatorix along with his dragon, Thorn.
Eragon also faces lots of more minor villains like Sloan (the butcher in Carvahall), the twins (turned traitor to the Varden), and the Urgals (but the Varden teams up with them in Brisingr to help defeat Galbatorix.)
