Why were people scared of the Spanish armada?

They weren't scared of them, they just knew that they were mad and ready to attack. England had bigger ships, and England had more weapons, so there is no need to be scared of the Spanish. I bet that both groups were scared at some point...its a mini war for crying out loud! :D
