Why did Aryans consider themselves the 'supreme race'?

Nazi's believed the Nordic Race which came to be called the Aryan Race in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, represented a pure white race. The Nazis believed the Aryans formerly dwelt on the lost, mythical continent of Atlantis. The believed other white Europeans like Slavs and Indo-Iranians had blood from non-European ancestors and were therefore inferior.

The word Aryan means noble, as in aristocratic or high class. Obviously they thought they superior than their own Indo-European(Aryans are a type of Indo-European) relatives from Southern Russia(which is where Indo-Europeans originated from), so they brought that mindset along with them to wherever they expanded(Iran, Northern India, and Syria). It is unknown why they originally used the term noble but I think it is probably because they were richer in whatever currency their Indo-European society used(maybe cattle or horses).

With the word Aryan meaning 'noble' people often ask if that meant they were noble minded meaning they were morally superior to others. Those people must realize that while the word noble can mean two different things in the modern English language, the original Indo-European languages only had one meaning for it, aristocracy.

Another common misconception about Aryans is that Europeans and the Nazi's descend from or were Aryan. This is far from the truth as the Aryans did not expand that way. Other Indo-European groups expanded that way but not Aryans.

It is true that they were warlike people and they probably had colored eyes and blonde hair, due to their origins in southern russia.

This explains blondism and colored eyes in Iranic peoples. However nowadays dark hair and dark eyes are more common in the areas that Aryans expanded to because they carry recessive genes and these peoples have mixed with other types of people who carry dominant darker genes. This is especially shown in India, where Indians have dark hair and eyes, but the northern Indians still retain a lighter skin complexion. With the case of Northern Syria and parts of Northern Mesopotamia(where the Mitanni Aryans settled), the descendants of the Aryans who settled there are most likely the Assyrians or Syrian Christians. Assyrians often have colored eyes and somewhat light skin complexion(comparable to Southern Europeans) but rarely have colored hair, this is due to their Assyrian semitic origin. Syrian Christians sometimes have lighter skin and less Semitic looking features and sometimes have colored hair or eyes. Again not a lot retain Indo-European features due to the fact that they are mixed with other Semites such as Assyrians, Phoenecians, and mainly Arameans. It must also be considered that the small lenience of Syrian christians towards Indo-European features can be attributed to the presence of crusaders genes in the Levant.

Now you might ask why you singled out the Christians to be descendants of these people and not the Muslims, because they are both Syrian or Iraqi. While it is true the Muslims of Syria and Iraq are Syrian and Iraqi, yet they are only so nationality wise. Ethnically they are not the same. By the time the Arab Muslims conquered the Levant and Mesopotamia, the ethnic Levantines and Mesopotamians were christian, and the Levantines and Mesopotamians were not Arab. They were semitic but not Arab. When the Arab Muslims conquered the Levant and Mesopotamia they did not mix with these people. This is because for a Muslim to marry a Christian, one has to convert to the others' religion, and sharia law(Islamic law) states that converting from Islam to another faith is punishable by death. Christians very rarely converted to Islam because they grew a resentment of Muslims for how they treated Christians. Also, they were not just going to easily give up their faith to one that oppresses women and encourages polygamy. So in the end the Muslims descend from Arabs(who have only been in the Levant and Mesopotamia for 1000 years) while the Christians are the original Levantines and Mesoptamians(who have been in the Levant and Mesopotamia for over 5000 years).

Adolf and his wannabe Aryans just used the Nordic look as their poster child of how the so called Aryan germans should look to contrast this to the semitic look of the Jews who were considered enemies of state. Central Europeans have a history of anti-semitism because when national movements in Europe were arising(during the 18th and 19th centuries) the Jews were not of any nationality that these Europeans were. So it was often suspect that the Jews would form their own nation, which means they were a threat to the other European nations.
