Nazi airmen had to fly greater distances (round trip), and were heavily laden with fuel and ordnance, and had to CONCENTRATE on their targets. Therefore German airmen were more tired, especially when conducting multiple missions (steady missions without rest). British airmen on the other hand simply had to fly straight up above their home turf and start shooting. They didn't have to go far to find enemy planes : the air above Great Britain was a "target rich environment" of German airplanes. The British pilot could also simply land to re-fuel and re-arm. A "fresh" pilot will kill a "tired" one almost every time.

Of course, this was offset by the numerical advantage of the Germans, and the number of targets simultaneously attacked. The defense required both skilled pilots and skillful allocation of resources to counter a multitude of possible attacks. Fortunately the pilots and aircraft of the British were up to the task. Also, the Germans could not employ their missiles (V-1, V-2) until very late in the war - combined with the bomber assaults, they might have overwhelmed the air defenses.
The British had major air superiority over the Germans, as the Spitfires were considered the best WWII fighter in history, save the American P-51 Mustang, and the German Me-110's were really cumbersome, even though the Me-109 was superior to the Spitfire in terms of firepower, it had extremely limited range. The British also had many more battleships and cruisers than the German Navy, and also being more protected as well. That's why the British sunk BOTH Bismarck class battleships, and they just sunk the HMS Hood, a BATTLE CRUISER, not a battleship, and the Germans didn't even touch a British battleship during the war. The Japanese sunk the HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse, not the Germans. But the Germans had the undersea advantage, with the famous Underseeboot.
This is an interesting question. Hitler very much thought Britain would give up and surrender after capturing France but they did not. However, german fighter planes accidently dropped a bomb/bombs? on London. This made england furious since it killed many civilians, the Royal Air Force bombed Berlin the following day. Which resulted in an attempt to take over Britain. Hitlers plan was to send the Luftwaffe to London, elimate the Royal Air Force, and send ground troops to take over the country. However when in the sky over London German planes were surprsingly being taken down even before germans could see them. THE ANSWER IS RADAR :)
