No. They *were* good, maybe 2,500 years ago. Today's Greek armed forces aren't in tiptop shape.

While they initially had to be held to maturity, the law was changed in 1947 to allow them to be cashed prior to maturity. There is a collector market for these items. There may be greater collector value than redemption value.
The Korean War proved to the both the Soviets and the Red Chinese, that a determined war to promote communism in Asia could be conducted. This theory saw fruit in the Vietnam War; with a communist victory.

Yes. The armed forces were segregated, with blacks mostly limited to serving in non-combat support units. Blacks were drafted like everyone else, but put in separate units, with white officers. By the end of the war manpower shortages had begun to cause some breakdown of the racial barrier, but the armed forces only became integrated by order of President Truman in 1947. The racial segregation in the armed forces mirrored conditions in civilian life. Schools and all other public facilities were segregated, until the Civil Rights movement gained momentum in the post-war years.
