Eugenics was a popular theory of the time. Many people believed that certain "types" of people, including blacks, Jews, gypsies and homosexuals, were inferior. Many Germans, being efficient at accomplishing whatever goal they were seeking, decided that Jews, blacks, gypsies, homosexuals and political dissidents should be exterminated. The German war machine needed money, why not confiscate the personal property of those people to fund their war. It was more of a 100% tax than true hate. But to make it work, the German government needed to work up a little contempt and did so by claiming that the germanic people were superior to everyone else and should be ruling the world.

There were several reasons, the most important being:

Most Germans were Christian, and many believed that all generations of Jews bore a share of blame and/or guilt for the killing of Jesus, because of Judas' betrayal.

Although there is ample evidence that Jews had lived in Germany since Roman times, they were still considered a rootless people, without a native country of their own, and a foreign element in Germany.

Above all, many Germans, in common with nationals of other European countries, believed that Jews were corrupted by the love and desire for money. This belief dates back to the Biblical time of the money-changers in the Temple. Hitler specifically referred to the Jews as being wealthy, greedy capitalists that had sucked Germany dry economically. That stereotype of the Jew was (and remains) widespread and Hitler used it to great effect in scapegoating the Jews as being responsible for the economic mess in Germany after the hyperinflation of 1924 and the Great Depression that followed. After all, he argued, had the World War I monetary payments exacted by the victorious powers at the 1919 Treaty of Versailles not been deposited into Jewish owned banks?

Finally, many Germans blamed the Jews for Communism. After all, it was argued, Karl Marx was Jewish, as were many other Communist leaders such as Trotsky. As such, Jews were considered traitors to Germany - notwithstanding that so many Jews in Germany were integrated with the gentile population and many considered themselves German first, then Jewish, and many had served in the German army in WWI (e.g., Otto Frank, father of Anne Frank, had the rank of Lieutenant in WWI).

Initially, it was not the Germans who hated them mainly, but it was Adolf Hitler. Once he became chancellor and had his rival parties assassinated, he began turning the German population against the Jews with his charisma.

In turn, the German people because to despise the Jewish people, thinking they were taking their jobs and their futures, and they did not belong there. Eventually, Hitler took the next step...to eradicate them and create the perfect Aryan Race. This began WWII and the Holocaust.

It was more than the Jewish population they thought as inferior, but anyone who wasn’t German or had disabilities, was gay or lesbian, old, and eventually Christian. They were all ready rewriting The Bible and putting in the philosophy and the made up Germanic history based on Norse mythology.
