Nobody with an ounce of sense enters a war enthusiastically. In December 1941 there was a lot of the population who did not want to be involved in W.W.2 and many who thought that the U.S. should be helping the nations who were fighting against Fascism. The attack on Pearl Harbor made it clear that the U.S. could not sit on the sidelines and ignore what goes on in the rest of the world as many wished to do, so the U.S. entered the war reluctantly, yet knowing it was on the side of right against wrong.
