Deception? Answer The air force did bomb the beaches. However, their accuracy was off and most of the bombs did not strike the beach defenses. The infantry that arrived at the beach not only faced the defenders, but the obstacles, too. And the bomb craters would have provided cover for them to move off the beach.

What was the German plan for the invasion of Normandy?

Most of the German generals had no plan for the invasion of Normandy. They were almost all fooled by the Allied strategy of building a fake army in Norfolk, apparently to attack Calais, far north of Normandy. Rommel was the only senior German who anticipated the attack in Normandy and he couldn't persuade his superiors of this. The heavily armed Omaha Beach was a product of Rommel's ingenuity.

Where did the German high command believe the invasion of Normandy would occur?

Instead of at Normandy, at Calais, France.

Why were the germans surprised on d-day?

The German Military, for the most part, did not expect the Allied invasion to land at the widest part of the English Channel, Normandy. They expected (again, for the most part, not entirely) the invasion was more likely to come at the Pas de Callais, the shortest point of the English Channel and therefore the shortest distance between France and England. This prompted German forces toreinforce the French beachhead at the Pas De Callais with much more men, supplies, defenses and defense positions than in Normandy. Only German General Rommel, placed in command of Normandy shortly before the D-Day invasion, suspected the Allied attack on the Normandy beachhead. There was not enough time, though, to reinforce Normandy to his liking.

Did any Allied soldiers not fire their rifles at Normandy?

Yes, because they were killed or wounded trying to find cover on the beachhead. Those not killed or wounded had found 'some' type and tried to fire on German defenses, but for the most part, there were no exposed German positions.......

What were the strengths of the allies on d-day?

More men were involved in the Navy and air forces. Then more soldiers were landed on Normandy in the following days who helped break out of the German defenses.
