Carpetbaggers are northeners who moved south after the war and became active in the souths' goverment, politics, etc. The south really just didnt like that they were north people taking part in their lives.

∙ 9y agoBecause those people came south to make money off the misery off the defeated and embattled southern people, who had lost nearly everything in the war. They were often put in positions of local power, to make life harder for the defeated south.
