They had nothing to do with World War 2. They lived during the 1920s.
Franco commanded the Academy of General Military Studies, known as the "Academia de Ingenieros," during the 1920s. It was located in the city of Toledo, Spain. This institution was significant in shaping military leadership during his rise in the Spanish military hierarchy.
During WW1 farmers were producing goods which they then exported to European countries who were struggling. They became used to producing large amounts of produce and making high profits. However, when WW1 ended, there was no longer such a large demand for agricultural goods in Europe. The farmers now had a large surplus stock which they were unable to sell abroad. This was partly the fault of the American govt. Having raised taxes on imported goods to prevent Americans buying foreign produce, other countries retaliated by doing the same which left farmers struggling to sell produce within the USA. The end of the war meant that the agricultural industry was declining, and people were unable to make enough money to pay their rent or mortgage. This led to poverty amongst farmers, and therefore they did not participate in the Boom of the 1920s.

The farm prices fell and farmers compensated by boosting their productions. They were not able to purchase their share of America's output.
During the 1920s, farmers experienced increased debt due to several factors, including rising land prices and the expansion of mechanized farming, which led them to borrow heavily for equipment and land purchases. Additionally, after World War I, agricultural prices fell sharply as demand decreased, making it difficult for farmers to repay loans. This financial strain was exacerbated by overproduction, which further drove down prices. Consequently, many farmers found themselves in a cycle of mounting debt that they struggled to escape.
During the years of the 1890's through the 1920's, farmers faced one major problem. Competitors began farming, and over production caused falling prices.
industrialization(:
The 1920s were a difficult time for many farmers in the US due to overproduction of crops leading to falling prices, high debts incurred during World War I, competition from other countries, and the impact of the Great Depression in the late 1920s. These factors resulted in financial hardship for many farmers and forced some off their land.
