it was the north and south... north went to fort Sumter, an unredied fort and the south didnt approve cause it was on their property, the north couldn't replentish the forts recousces and got frustrated, so they sent 13 ships to suply it. the south opened fire, no one died in the 2 days of battle

After a successful campain against the Washington, DC area, British forces decided to attack Baltimore, MD. Since Fort McHenry guarded the Baltimore harbor, the British would need to overcome the Fort's defenses to reach Baltimore and control its port. The attack on Fort McHenry was the execution of this battle campaign.
Baltimore Maryland. The fort stood up to British Naval bombardment, and because it was there, the British Navy could not land British soldiers on Baltimore Maryland. The British Army tried to outflank Fort McHenry, but, they were defeated on land, so a water attack was the only other way to attack Baltimore. When Fort McHenry was stand standing, Flag Flying, the British Navy sailed away.

The Battle of Fort Henry was important because it was the first blow inflicted to the Confederate's defensive system set up to block a Union invasion of Tennessee coming down the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers. The seize of Fort Henry opened the way to the Union forces led by Gen. Grant to invest the stronghold of Fort Donelson on the River Cumberland.
Confederates withdrew so therefore the Union won.
