During the American Civil War, approximately 2.75 million soldiers served in the Union and Confederate armies. While many enlisted voluntarily, both sides also implemented draft laws. The Union's Conscription Act of 1863 allowed for the drafting of men, resulting in about 400,000 individuals being drafted, while the Confederacy also enacted its own draft, which included around 200,000 soldiers. Overall, the draft played a significant role in supplementing the ranks of both armies during the conflict.
Both sides needed more soldiers because the civil war claimed many lives.
A draft was begun and at first there were many volunteers. A wealthy man could also buy his way out of the draft by paying another man to take his place. The recruiters would also go to the docks when the ships arrived with young Irish immigrants men and sign them up. About 60% of the armies were Irish immigrants.

Only 50,000 Union troops were enlisted on the basis of the draft laws. The Union states continued to raise troops who were volunteers.
One of the benefits of a voluntary military is you have people who have chosen to to be there. In the days of the draft where the person was selected by the draft board to be in the military there were people who did not want to be there. The drafted soldier quickly learned the best way to get his tour of duty over was to work. One of the advantages of the draft was that many of the soldiers brought into the Army had a higher education level. Oddly enough many of these drafted soldiers moved up the ranks quickly and assumed leadership roles (Fire Team Leaders and Squad Leaders).
In the Northern & Southern States many men did not want to join the army or be conscripted. One reason was that in the South, men were exempt from the draft if they owned 20 or more slaves. Many Confederate soldiers did not have 20+ slaves and so many Southerners saw the war as a poor man's war, as wealthy slaveholders were exempt from fighting. In the North, a draft had to be installed in 1863 as the volunteer's for Union army service declined. Riots were the New York City answer to the new draft laws. These laws also made Unionists not want to fight a "rich man's war " because one could avoid the draft by paying the US Treasury $300. OR finding a substitute to fight for the original draftee.
The Confederacy had lost many soldiers in the campaigns in 1863. Even their victories at Chancellorsville and Chickamauga, while damaging to the Union, caused thousands of Confederate casualties. They altered their draft laws to include seventeen year olds and men aged 46 to 50. The plans, for the most part were to have these soldiers used for local defenses.
Both sides needed more soldiers because the civil war claimed many lives.
because the patricians ruled over the plebeians and they made unfair laws and the plebeians had to work with no pay and no breaks.
They are dissatisfied with their body because the media shows beautiful,skinny girls, and it is basically saying, "THIS is how you should look or you are not good enough."
Indulgences
{| |- | There were many reasons the soldiers fought in the Civil War. Some signed up for the money. Many signed up to fight for the preservation of the Union. There was a draft system instituted, so some were drafted. And there was still a thought that it was a good thing to do for God and Country. |}
Many Americans were dissatisfied with the Jay Treaty because they felt it favored Britain over the United States and did not address issues such as British impressment of American sailors and interference with American trade.
