It is both a challenging and a rewarding experience to become a Military Police Officer, or an MP, within the United States Army. It requires that you enlist for either four, six or eight years, and it also requires that you take on at least six months of training as soon as you begin your career. The remainder of your career is to be spent as a Military Police Officer who serves your country. During your enlistment, you will then have to undergo some more training courses for refreshing your memory, just to ensure you still have the skills to use. Once you have initially enlisted, you may later choose to reenlist for another term of your service, or, alternatively, you can move on to become an officer under civilian law enforcement.

  1. Finish high school in order to obtain your diploma certifying your graduation, or opt to receive your GED by way of examination instead.
  2. Locate your nearest United States Army Reserve recruiter and request information with regards to enlisting into the services offered by the Army Reserve.
  3. Undergo the process of the local Military Entrance Process Station, otherwise referred to as the MEPS. Additionally, you will have to take the exam for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, also known as the ASVAB exam, in order to figure out what your qualifications are with regards to available military jobs. From there, you will then need to take a physical examination by the military so that you can ensure you are in the proper physical fitness to serve within the United States military.
  4. Attend training. You will have to undergo Basic Combat Training under the United States Army to learn the most basic of skills that you must know to succeed as a soldier. AIT, or Advanced Individual Training, will offer training of the skills that are required to succeed as an MP upon your return to your unit in the Army Reserve.
  5. Function as a Military Police Officer in your unit for the Army Reserve upon your return. You will be able to serve your country as a police offer for the United States Army.

There are a few reserve MP units in FL. There are MP Battalions in Tallahassee (160th MP BN), Tampa (317th MP BN) and Ft. Myers (724th MP BN). I do not believe that the 160th and 724th have any companies because they are an I/R battalion. There is no "Florida Army Reserve", although there are Army Reserve units in Florida. The Army Reserve is wholly a federal agency, which the states have no jurisdiction over. The Florida Army National Guard is probably the agency you're thinking of. While no specific number is published, the Florida Army National Guard is estimated to have approximately 12,000 personnel.
