The fastest documented speed reached by the CF-105 Avro Arrow during flight testing was Mach 1.98. This was done with an early prototype aircraft equipped with Pratt and Whitney J-75 engines. Test Pilot Jan Zurakowski stated that the actual top speed of the aircraft was never tested, but was expected to exceed Mach 2 by a significant margin when equipped with the Orenda PS-13 Iroqouis engines, which were still in development at the time.

The conservative Diefenbaker government cancelled the Avro Arrow but it was actually an officer of the RCAF that ordered its destruction. They were destroyed with blow torches and sent as scrap to be recycled.
