The AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft typically flies at a cruising speed of about 300 to 350 knots (approximately 345 to 400 miles per hour or 555 to 650 kilometers per hour). The specific speed can vary based on the mission profile and aircraft model, such as the E-3 Sentry or E-7 Wedgetail. These aircraft are designed for long-range surveillance and command and control operations, balancing speed with operational requirements.
AWACS was not used by the British forces as the British Government had scrapped the only ships able to carry an AWACS aircraft. Argentina had no AWACS capability.
AWACS stands for Airborne Warning and Control System. It is not a particular type of aircraft, but the equipment it carries.
