In the US Air Force SR stands for Strategic Reconnaissance. I do not know how they decide the number however. These are a few other US aerial vehicle abbreviations.

A= Attack

B= Bomber

F= Fighter

P= Patrol/Pursuit

AH= Attack Helicopter
