It is the wood trim that the brick stops behind or against. It hides the top or end of brick so you don't see the air space behind the brick.
A concrete rub brick is used to smooth and level rough concrete surfaces. To use it, hold the brick firmly and apply even pressure while rubbing it back and forth across the surface you want to smooth. This process removes high spots and imperfections, creating a more even finish. Always wear safety goggles and a dust mask to protect yourself from concrete dust.
Brick is commonly called "brick veneer". It is a Wall covering. It does not support weight. The roof should not connect to the brick. Trim "frieze" covers the gap between the brick and soffit.
I use a pencil eraser. You can trim them to shape with a knife if needed to fit a small space. Either rub the contacts back and forth, or twirl the pencil eraser on the contacet.
