No. When Titanic sank, Captain Smith went down with the ship.
He is in the last room of the SS Anne. First go in the ship and then go to the left, down and then finally right withoutgoing down/up any of the stairs. You will then have to fight your rival. Once you have beat him, you can go down the stairs that he just appeared from. You will then be in the ship captain's room. If this did not help, you can watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oM3Qlca9Ss

Captain Smith went down with the ship
It was customary at the time for the captain to go down with the ship, especially if others were dying on board. If the ship was sinking and all others on board were already saved, the captain does not have as much of an obligation to it. It sure was a different time period. Back then captains had a sense of duty to their ship and those on board. There are many good captains today, but look at the ones that have recently had disasters (i.e. Captain of the Costa Concordia, captain of the Oceanos, etc- abandoning the ship without helping passengers).
