Hair bows can easily be made with fabrics and ribbons. Ribbons are typically the perfect width to dress up ones hair, Another easy way would be to simply buy them from local stores. Most bought bows are just clip on's.

This is tricky to describe but easy to accomplish. You need your ribbon and a piece of flexible wire. A pair of pliers is nice, but not entirely necessary. Using your non dominate hand, pinch the ribbon about 6" from the end. With your dominate hand, make a loop to one side of the pinch, shiny side out, about 6" long. Now pinch the ribbon with the same fingers of the non dominate hand but as you pinch, twist the ribbon in the pinch so the dull side of the ribbon is facing you. Make the 6" loop with the shiny side out, and once again pinch it and twist. This will always make the shiny side go out. Repeat these two steps, using a smaller loop each side, for seven repeats. Now you have a fist full of ribbon, so how to finish it? Make a small center loop loosly around the thumb of the non dominate hand and let about 6" of ribbon dangle down. Cut ribbon from the bolt. Take the wire and bend it around the ribbon twists and under the center loop that your thumb is holding. Bend wire to the back of the ribbon and twist it by hand until snug against the ribbon. Taking your index finger, insert it into any loop of the ribbon to rearrange it to your satisfaction, leaving the center loop in place. Pull the trailing end of the ribbon to the bottom of the bow, making it about even with the first "tail". When you are happy with the arrangement of the loops, use the pliers to tighten the wire to secure it. Bend the wire in a fashion to use either as a hook for a vase, a pick for a pot, or trim it to tape to a package. Now practice! It gets better over time. This method works with any size ribbon. The narrow ribbon needs 9 loops, and a pot bow only needs 5 loops to look nice.
