They are pliers with a very wide gripping end, often converted from vice grips. I have 3 different with 2, 4 and 6 inch wide blades. Not strong, but capable of putting a very good bend on thin steel or alloy sheet.
I find it easiest to cut chicken wire with aircraft style sheet metal shears. -It could be done with diagonal pliers or wire cutters, but that's a lot more effort.

A sheet metal bender is typically used for metalworking. A sheet metal bender allows the bending of sheet metal. There are many different kinds of sheet metal bending for use in many areas.

No, steel is a specific type of metal alloy that contains iron and carbon, while sheet metal is a form of metal that is produced as thin, flat pieces. Steel can be made into sheet metal, but not all sheet metal is made of steel.
No, aluminum sheet metal is not magnetic.
Sheet metal refers to how the metal is layed out rather than what type of metal. So therefore sheet metal can be made out of metals such as gold, brass, copper and steel. If the type of metal used is magnetic then so is the sheet metal.
A sheet metal brake is useful for a sheet metal machine. You need a brake on the machine that helps to bend the metal into the correct angle that you wish to bend it.

Large sheet metal operations used central computers to direct all sheet metal-forming operations.

Sheet metal thickness can be determined by measuring it. Several specialty tools are available to tell how thing the sheet metal is in actual measurement or by guage, a form of measurement that is used for various types of sheet metal thickness.
