RAM type steering gear is a mechanical system used in ships to control the rudder's position and thus steer the vessel. It employs hydraulic rams to move the rudder based on input from the ship's steering wheel or control system. This type of steering gear is favored for its reliability and efficiency, allowing for precise maneuverability, especially in larger vessels. Its design typically includes features that ensure safety and redundancy in case of system failure.
different kinds of steering gear
It depends on the type of vehicle and the steering system that it has. If the vehicle has rack and pinion steering, it may be a bad rack and pinion. If the vehicle has a steering gear, like most older cars of pickup trucks, It could have a bad steering gear.
i drive a pickup from the 1990's and it doesnt even have a rack, it has a steering gear box, and pittman arms

I have an L-82 high performance 350 ci, 250hp, 4-speed '73 vette, matching numbers. According to my owner's manual the Steering gear is factory filled and should not be drained. However, if a seal went bad or you are overhauling then refill with #1051052 Steering Gear Lubricant meeting GM 4673M. Respectfully, George E. Rohweder
Rotary vane steering gear is a type of hydraulic steering system commonly used in ships and large marine vessels. It operates using a series of vanes mounted on a rotating cylinder, which are actuated by hydraulic pressure to direct the flow of fluid and adjust the position of the rudder. This mechanism allows for precise control of the vessel's direction, making it suitable for navigating through challenging marine environments. The efficiency and responsiveness of rotary vane steering gear contribute to enhanced maneuverability at various speeds.
To the best of my knowledge, this vehicle does not use a steering assembly. Instead, the column is connected to a recirculating ball type power steering gear mounted to the frame. The gear turns a pitman arm which moves a center link mounted on one or two idler arms. The idler arms push/pull the tie rods.
Rack and Pinion steering is the most modern type of steering in new vehicles. A "rack" and a "pinion" are two tools in which help the vehicle to turn easier. When you turn the steering wheel in your car, the pinion's gear spins along the rack, allowing your vehicle to turn.
Different types of packaging are used in the apparel industry that include cardboard cartons. Packaging means wrapping clothing for shipping in some type of wrapper or container. Paper and plastic bags are used as packaging for clothing.
