Typically a bedroom has to have these features; a window, a closet, and a door. One of the windows cannot be more than 44" from the floor and must allow egress, 3' x 5' for example.

That depends on the house and the master bedroom in question. There is no fixed size, any bedroom can be designated as the "master bedroom" - it is a marketing term, not a specific building code.

Would seem to be a bit impractical, but I know of no building code that it violates.
Hire an architect and take the plans to your local building code authorities for review. Then get bids from contractors, unless you think you can do it yourself.
It really depends on which state your from. It's not in the building code in Cali or Texas. However, in real estate terms, that bedroom needs a closet to count as a bedroom.

Depending upon where you live, the building code, fire code, and life safety code appropriate for your occupancy (single family dwelling, multi-family, apartment, institution, dormitory, etc) will tell you whether this is a permitted structure. Your municipal building official may be able to help you.
Your answer depends on the location of your lot. Your local municipal building code will dictate your ultimate land-use plan.
The ICC 2006 International Residential Code states: no habitable space may be less than 70 square feet. A bedroom is considered a habitable space. Some building officials do not concider the closet part of that space and some do. Best to ask your building department. Although this is a code reference, it is not a code interpretation. Codes vary from area to area and should always be verified with your local authority. Some areas do not use the IRC and some amend the IRC. Your local building official can help you much more than I can. Hope this helps! Terry, CBO
