The reason why your fingers sink into oobleck is because they are there for a reasonable time for them to sink into it but but when you punch it you take your hand of straight away so it doesnt have enough time to sink into the oobleck and because your hands have to be in a small ammout of a size.

Some people use caulking to stick them on but this can lead to them falling off easily later on. Best way is to nail the baseboards in place. Use finishing nails. A stud finder will help locate wall studs to nail into. If you don't have one, then knock on the wall and listen for a hollow sound, this is where there is no stud.
